FDRViEWS provides a simplified GUI interface to query and analyze your
z/OS data storage, allowing you to quickly obtain answers to common DASD Storage Management questions, such as:
With FDRViEWS, you can take scheduled and/or ad hoc “collections” of the status of your z/OS storage at both the volume-level and dataset-level. FDRViEWS can collect information from thousands of volumes in just a few minutes. This non-obtrusive process allows you to run your collections as frequently as required, and without affecting the performance of your z/OS or its users and applications.
In a recent test, we ran a volume and dataset level collection against 8,000 volumes (43TBs) and 1 million datasets. The collection took just over 20 minutes. Limiting the collection to gather volume-level only information reduced the collection time down to just 8 minutes.
Having asked the appropriate “question” you can then view the “answer” in a variety of formats, including bar charts, pie charts and tables etc. – all viewed through a standard Microsoft Excel spreadsheet:
FDRViEWS also provides a “storage trending” function, which allows the Storage Administrator to see and compare Total Allocated Bytes against Total Used Bytes of storage over a selected period.
Storage trending can be done at the Collections or Groupings level.
In this example of “groupings” storage trending, we can see the total installed Gigabytes of DASD space, together with the storage utilization of two SMS Storage Groups: PROD01 and PROD06.
